TNT has started the construction of a new distribution hub in Madrid and launched a new truckservice between the Spanish capital and its UK road hub while also upgrading its online services
for SMEs, as part of the company’s ‘Outlook’ strategy and ambitious growth plans in thecountry.With a plot covering 40,755 sqm, the distribution facility will be located in the “Puerta deMadrid” industrial area in San Fernando de Henares. This is a strategic location, connected to theM-50 highway and just 12 km from Madrid International Airport, where TNT will continue operatingits current platform at the cargo terminal with direct access to the loading ramp.
The 12,900 sqm platform will feature a new design, with more than one hundred berths fortrailers and four ‘fingers’ for loading and unloading delivery vehicles. A new classificationsystem technology will increase processing speed as part of TNT’s new infrastructure. The newdistribution centre will be built according to the highest sustainability standards BREEAM, withless impact on the environment, TNT stressed.
To further enhance its road network in Europe, TNT also started operating a new daily directservice between Madrid and the UK hub in Northampton, East Midlands. It is part of the €185 millioninvestment in the European road network which connects more than 44 countries through 4,500 routesand 2.45 million km covered weekly.
“The new road connection with the UK offers many advantages for expanding trade with one of themost important destinations for our economy. Direct connections allow faster deliveries, fewermanipulations and more safety when it comes to transportation of goods,” TNT Spain said. Thecompany highlighted the service’s fast transit times enabling deliveries within 48-72 hoursdepending on the final destination of the shipment.
In addition, TNT Spain has launched new tools for its website and improved its existing onlineservices to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) who want to enter internationalmarkets. In the last few months, the company has adopted its website to provide users who are notfamiliar with transportation a simpler and more rapid access to the basic functionalities. At thesame time, the existing applications were improved for customers with regular shipments such as theshipment management portal “myTNT”.
Also on its website, TNT set up a shipment management tool for those visitors who are notregular clients. The ‘Online Booking Tool’ allows them to send a shipment in three steps, includinga payment platform with credit card and without the need to register.
The company also launched a ‘Free Shipping Campaign’ to offer Spanish firms an opportunity totest its services and assist them in growing their international business. The offer includes afree shipment up to 100 kg to a destination that can be chosen from 24 countries.
Furthermore, TNT Spain has created a new portal “TNT helps you export” www.tntexporta.com where users can find all the necessaryinformation to take the first steps towards internationalisation ranging from concepts of foreigntrade to documentation required for their shipments and advice in terms of customs clearance.
The website contains a blog which is renewed and updated on a regular basis with information andnews of interest to SMEs where companies can find publications to help or guide them in possibleways of expansion, growth markets, industry information, etc.
TNT stressed that all these new offerings are part of its Outlook strategy, with profitablegrowth remaining one of its fundamental pillars.
