British parcel carrier Yodel is hiring 5,000 part- and full-time staff across the country toprepare for the upcoming Christmas period with a peak in online sales when it expects to handle up
to a million parcels a day.The jobs created by Yodel include 750 warehouse staff to work at Yodel’s parcel sorting centres,760 employed drivers and 470 self-employed van drivers with their own vehicles to deliver and pickup parcels from customers. A further 2,830 staff are self-employed couriers working flexible hoursin their own neighbourhood, which is ideal for people who need a job that can fit with their othercommitments such as child-care, hobbies or another part-time job, the company said.
In addition to the front-line roles, Yodel is hiring three service centre managers, threeoperations managers, 40 service delivery managers and 135 customer service and admin staff.
While these are seasonal positions for the upcoming Christmas period, many of them might turninto permanent jobs thanks to the increase in the company’s client base and parcel volumes growth,according to Yodel.
While the new staff are being recruited all over the UK, the focus is on London and the SouthEast, Aberdeen, Carlisle, Edinburgh, East Kilbride, Glasgow, Hayes, Leamington, Middleton,Northampton, Reading, Selby, Southampton and Tilehurst, Yodel said.

“Many of the vacancies are flexible and perfect for those who want to fit work aroundfamilies, or who have retired but want to remain active and earn some extra cash. Others arefull-time and we expect many people to stay on beyond December. Whatever the job, we’re givingeveryone working for us the tools they need to deliver a top service,” he added.
