FedEx signs up supermarket chain Super C in Canadian retail expansion

FedEx Express is continuing its retail expansion in Canada with plans for full-service FedExAuthorized ShipCentres in most of the 86 ‘Super C’ supermarkets in Quebec.

The company plans to conduct the expansion in two phases. During the first phase, roughly 40Super C stores will become FedEx Authorized ShipCentres by the end of January 2015.

FedEx said the new cooperation with the supermarket chain, a subsidiary of Metro Inc.,represents its largest opportunity for retail growth in Quebec until now.

“This agreement reinforces our commitment to Quebec and our ability to connect Quebec’s onlineshoppers and small and medium businesses to the rest of the country and the world,” Lisa Lisson,president of FedEx Express Canada, said. “Our alliance with Super C embeds our points-of-accessdeeper in communities across Quebec than ever before.”

She added: “Super C is a well-known brand in Quebec and the opportunity our alliance createswill result in a better e-commerce experience for more Quebecers. Through Super C, FedEx ExpressCanada and FedEx Ground will be more easily accessible to Quebec communities than ever before.Conversely, hosting a FedEx Authorized ShipCentre allows Super C to connect their customers withintheir respective communities to the rest of Canada and the world with efficiency andeffectiveness.”

Metro Inc., with annual sales of over $11 billion, operates a network of almost 600 food storesunder several names including Metro, Metro Plus, Super C and Food Basics, as well as over 250drugstores in Quebec and Ontario.

Having FedEx counters is anadditional asset, for both our regular customers and for people using the FedEx counters, who willnow be able to complete their purchases with us.”
 
In April this year, FedEx announced an agreement with Home Hardware Stores Limited enablingindividual dealer-owners to house full-service FedEx Authorized ShipCentres within their stores.The agreements with Super C and Home Hardware represent the first two phases of the mostcomprehensive Canadian retail expansion in the company’s history.
