UPS Canada invests in network expansion in British Columbia

UPS is expanding its network in Canada with a multi-million dollar investment in new operationalcentres in British Colombia and the expansion in its existing centre in the province, with the

project to be completed by November 2014.

The move is in response to growth in customer demand and follows investments in Toronto, Calgaryand eight cities across Atlantic Canada.

The new operational centres will be located in the cities Kamloops, Nanaimo and Comox. Thefacility to be expanded is situated in the city of Kelowna, in the southern interior of BritishColumbia. The investment adds a total of 3,344 sqm across the four centres, with about 80 new jobsto be created in the region.

UPS Canada President Michael Tierney said: “Expanding our service in British Colombia and acrossCanada is fueled by market opportunity and customer demand. UPS continues to invest in newcapabilities and network capacity to secure customers’ confidence and enable their long-termgrowth.”

UPS started expanding its global network into Canada in 1975. Over the past 39 years, it hasgrown to 2,600 vehicles (nearly 40% of the power fleet run on low-emission propane), 11,500employees and more than 85 daily airline flight segments. Another 1,700 employees provide logisticsand distribution, freight forwarding and customs brokerage services to Canadian customers.

Earlier this year, UPS expanded its footprint in Canada with an additional 1,672 sqm to itshealthcare facility in Calgary in the province of Alberta. The new space allows for a one daytime-in-transit to the majority of end-customers in the Saskatchewan-British Columbia corridor.
