DPD Germany has launched a new dedicated website for parcel recipients to manage theirdeliveries via mobile devices or on desktop computers, with various options to receive their orders
in the most convenient way. This service enhancement is part of DPD’s strategic target to double its share in the German B2Csegment to 15% by 2018. In the B2B segment, DPD is already the market leader in the country.
Called the ‘parcel navigator’ (German: Paketnavigator), the online platform has been designedspecifically for the needs of private consignees. Michael Knaupe, Director B2C Products &Services at DPD GeoPost (Deutschland), said: “Consignees of DPD parcels can use their smartphonesor tablets to adapt parcel deliveries to their lives – and not the other way round. DPD’s newparcel navigator makes it easier than ever before.”
At paketnavigator.de, all consignees who expect a parcel to be delivered by DPD can controltheir individual deliveries themselves, choosing from a wide range of options. For example, theycan specify via the platform a neighbour to whom they want the parcel to be delivered, change thedelivery day or redirect the parcel to a different delivery address such as a workplace or a DPDparcel shop of their choice. They can also arrange for the parcel to be left in a safe place.
In addition, a clearly arranged map indicates the nearby DPD parcel shops to which delivery canbe made, if requested, with the business hours of each shop being displayed as well. As soon as theparcel is ready for collection at a DPD parcel shop, the recipient is notified by e-mail.
When a parcel is on its way to the recipient, the parcel navigator displays a direct link toDPD’s live tracking function, where consignees can see exactly where their parcel is at anyspecific time. This way, they know when the delivery driver will be ringing the doorbell and nolonger have to worry about missing the delivery.
DPD highlighted user-friendliness as top priority when developing the parcel navigator. “Redirecting parcels is now easier than it has ever been – with the number of mouse clicks reducedto a minimum and the most frequently used options always shown most prominently in a display whichis optimised for tablet users,” the company said. The navigator is available as an app both at theAndroid Play Store and at the Apple App Store.
In future, DPD wants to add more options to the parcel navigator to make parcel shipping evenmore flexible. One option will be, for example, for consignees in selected cities, to book deliverywithin 90 minutes as soon as the parcel arrives at the DPD distribution centre. Same-day deliverywithin 90 minutes or a specified two-hour time window is already available in 19 major Germancities, thanks to DPD’s cooperation with same-day specialist tiramizoo, of which DPD is the mainshareholder.
In Germany, DPD has 75 depots country-wide and 5,000 parcel shops, with a workforce of 7,500people and 7,000 vehicles in daily operation on behalf of customers in B2B and B2C parcelshipping.
