FedEx today flew 100 tonnes of vital medical aid and other relief supplies to the Philippinesfor victims of ‘Super-Typhoon Haiyan’.
A FedEx MD-11 freighter from Los Angeles landed at Mactan Cebu International Airport early thismorning carrying nearly 200,000 lbs. (100 tonnes) of relief supplies for communities in and aroundCebu.
In partnership with Direct Relief and Heart to Heart International, the FedEx charter flightbrought in a cargo of personal care and hygiene items, pharmaceuticals and first aid kits worthUS$10 million.
“FedEx team members around the globe, in Asia Pacific and in particular the Philippines, arecommitted to assisting with the recovery effort,” said David L. Cunningham Jr., president, AsiaPacific, FedEx Express. “FedEx has a long history of connecting non-profit organisations withcommunities in need, especially in the wake of a disaster of this scale. We are privileged tobe using our extensive global network and logistical expertise to bring relief supplies to victimsof the typhoon.”
FedEx already teamed up with Water Missions International earlier in November to deliver two “Living Water Treatment Systems” capable of filtering more than 5,000 gallons of water per day tothe Philippines.
