DHL Express targets Africans with fuel station partnership

DHL Express has signed a retailer partnership with Engen, Africa’s leading multinational fuelretailer and provider of convenience services, so customers can better access its global express

services in various African countries.

Starting at four Engen service stations in the Namibian capital Windhoek, the project will thenbe rolled out in phases, with Ghana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya and Tanzania comingnext.

The company explained: “Consumers looking to send documents or parcels overseas can simply walkinto an Engen service station to send their shipments, ensuring greater convenience andaccessibility to the powerful global network which DHL offers. This includes all domestic andinternational shipments to major centres across over 220 countries worldwide.”

DHL stressed that customers will also profit from its new product offering, Express Easy, at theEngen outlets. Express Easy provides a simple way to send documents or parcels, with consumersbeing able to choose an envelope or one of seven box sizes at a fixed price, rather than paying arate based on the weight of the parcel. They just need to pick their box, pay the fixed rate andsend their documents or parcels to any of DHL’s global destinations.

For us to better service this market and openup global opportunities for students, small business owners and general consumers, we needed toboth increase access to our express products but, simultaneously, make it easier and moreaffordable to use them. Engen is therefore an obvious partner for us – they are not only a solidAfrican business but have an extensive retail network across the continent, which can benefitconsumers.”
