DHL expands logistics centre for HSE

German multi-channel mail-order company HSE24 has extended its long-term cooperation with solelogistics partner DHL which has now doubled the size of its logistics centre serving the

The €30 millionexpansion was financed by Commerzbank subsidiary Commerz Real, which already funded construction ofthe logistics centre in 2006.

From the new warehouse, the complete product management and logistics will be monitored withshipments to be fed directly into the adjacent DHL parcel centre via a conveyor bridge.

During peak periods, DHL employees process more than 5,000 HSE24 shipments per hour. On average, more than 33,000 HSE24 parcels containing some 20,000 different items in seven product categoriesleave the DHL logistics centre in Greven every day.

Katja Herbst, Managing Director of DHL Home Delivery GmbH and Chief Sales Officer (CSO) at DHLParcel Germany, said: “We are pleased with the trust that HSE24 has placed in us. The expansion ofthe logistics centre in Greven and the direct access to the modernised parcel centre enable us tooffer an integrated solution that is ideally suited for the particular requirements of theteleshopping business as well as for HSE24’s growth strategy.”

“The most important thing for us is fast and reliable delivery to our customers,” KoenVerbrugge, Service & Operations manager at HSE24, said. “That means fast order processing andconsideration of the special conditions associated with our business. Both are reflected in thelogistics concept from DHL, thanks to a combination of the different advantages of automated andmanual logistics processes.”

Among the requirements listed by the Munich-based company are the fastest possible delivery ofthe goods ordered, flexible handling of the products and a suitable solution for a wide range ofproducts that require a specific type of warehouse as well as diverse handling processes. Therefore, the site in Greven provides more storage capacity for pallets and a secure area forvaluable goods such as jewellery. The different product portfolios also require a complex system ofsupply, picking and packing logistics.
