DHL’s German online supermarket extends evening deliveries to Munich

All You Need

All You Need, the start-up online supermarket partly owned by Deutsche Post DHL, is furtherexpanding its evening deliveries across Germany with Munich as its new coverage area, following the

Rhine-Ruhr region and Berlin.

The German company, which launched in 2010, announced that customers in Munich will now also beable to choose between the standard delivery during the day and the evening deliveries between18.00-20.00 or 20.00-22.00, on their desired day. All deliveries are made by DHL.

All You Need said the evening deliveries are very popular especially with people who work thewhole day and don’t want to burden themselves additionally with going to the supermarket. They cansimply receive the delivery in the evening, on time for dinner. Many families also use the serviceto receive their weekly purchases on a Friday evening, for example, to be able to use the Saturdayfor family activities.

Moreover, many Munich customers use the option of the desired delivery day to get their orderssent to their weekend home on Friday or Saturday to avoid having to pack everything at home andtake it with them in a car, the company pointed out.

Managing director and co-founder Jens Drubel said: “All You Need offers twice as many productsas a normal supermarket and ten times as much service. Delivery on the desired day and eveningdeliveries are two important components. Reminder and subscription functions can also be seteasily. As an All You Need customer, you no longer need to worry about many standard purchases. Ourcustomers can enjoy life – we help organising their daily routine.” All You Need places a specialfocus on branded and bio products and regional manufacturers.

Meanwhile, the company has appointed logistics specialist Gion-Otto Presser-Velder as OperationsDirector. The German-Mexican manager was formerly Chief Logistics Officer for the Lazada Group inSouth-East Asia, and previously with British online supermarket Ocado and Mexican parcels companyMultipack, now owned by FedEx.

Presser-Velder commented: “The potential for online shopping for food in Germany is enormous.Not only because we are at a low level compared with other countries but many people no longer findall the products they want in supermarkets, let alone the service.” 

The German company offers free delivery for orders of more than €20 with all goods beingdelivered by DHL Parcel Germany. All You Need’s two shareholders are Drubel and Deutsche Post DHL,which invested in the company in 2011 and then bought out co-founder Christian Heitmeyer in October2012.
