DHL wins five-year BP energy logistics contract

DHL serves BP's upstream business

DHL has signed a new five-year global agreement with the British oil and gas company BP coveringfreight forwarding, logistics and express delivery services.

Under the contract, whose value was not disclosed, DHL will provide freight management servicesfor BP’s upstream business with DHL Global Forwarding covering the initial scope of work andproviding inbound freight forwarding services to support BP’s global upstream operations and majorcapital projects. Upstream solutions relate to both the exploration and production of oil andgas.

Express delivery services will also be integrated as part of the scope of services. DHL and BPalready have an agreement on downstream logistics for fuels and lubricants in Europe in place,which involves DHL Supply Chain providing warehousing and distribution services.

“We aim to develop an integrated end-to-end supply chain for our upstream business to becomemore cost efficient. DHL has been a reliable partner ever since we started working together and welook forward to expanding our close cooperation”, said Rick Monical, VP Category Management,BP.

Steve Harley, President Energy Sector, DHL, added: “BP has been a DHL customer for many years,but this agreement brings the relationship to a new level. It’s testament to our commitment tocontinuously improve customer service levels, our working partnership and the quality of ourservice offering for the energy industry.”

DHL described itself as “one of the global leaders” in integrated energy logistics, deliveringsafe and compliant solutions that increase productivity as well as efficiency and reduce costs.Among other services, the company offers capital project logistics, rig move management andsupport, inbound-to-operations (maintenance, repair and operations services), supply basemanagement and finished product packaging, storage, handling and distribution.
