30% of UK employees prefer workplace as alternative to home delivery, DPD says

DPD

UK online shoppers get up to 200 million parcels delivered to their workplace each year, according to DPD UK’s latest study. For employees requiring safe delivery guarantee, the company

has introduced two new options.

The research revealed that 30% of the British workers surveyed had arranged for their homeshopping to be delivered to work with an average of two deliveries per month arranged per employee.11% of those ordering workplace deliveries even get five or more parcels a month.

While 28% of employers didn’t mind their staff arranging workplace deliveries, 10% of therespondents admitted their boss has explicitly prohibited it.

For those online shoppers wanting to have a guarantee that their parcels will be deliveredsafely, DPD has introduced additional services. On the day of delivery, DPD’s Predict customers cannow track their driver’s progress in real-time via Follow My Parcel, to give them an accurate 15minute delivery window. If they aren’t able to be at home to collect the parcel, they can nowchoose at any point, before delivery is made, to redirect the parcel to a specified neighbour.

DPD UK CEO Dwain McDonald said: “Today, most of us have switched on to the benefits of onlineretailing, but while the internet allows us to shop 24/7, we can’t be at home around the clock toreceive our purchases. As our survey reveals, many online shoppers frequently arrange for theirpackages to be delivered to their workplace, knowing that there will be someone around to sign fortheir goods. Obviously, we are more than happy to make such deliveries, but we know it isn’t alwayspractical.”

The research was based on a survey of 2,000 UK adults commissioned by DPD and carried out byOnePoll Research. DPD UK employs 6,700 people operating more than 3,000 vehicles from over 40locations and delivering 1.6 million parcels per week.
