DHL Parcel Germany has started evening delivery services in Berlin on behalf of online retailerstrading with food and other perishable or urgently needed products following the successful launch
of this service in the Rhine-Ruhr region and Cologne.Among these retailers is All You Need, the start-up online supermarket partly owned by DeutschePost DHL that already announced the launch of Berlin deliveries earlier this month. Other providersalso using the service include REWE online, Biodirekt, Mytime and the mail-order pharmacyAPONEO.
With immediate effect, customers can choose from two different time slots in the evening between18.00-20.00 or 20.00-22.00. If requested, DHL can deliver on the same day or as soon aspossible.
Andrej Busch, CEO DHL Parcel Germany, said: “Since the start of our pilot project in Cologne, wehave been continuously developing our courier network and we want to be present in all Germanmetropolitan areas by mid-2014. Berlin is already the third region where we can deliver goods inthe evening of the day when they have been ordered. In October, Munich will follow as the fourthregion.”
With the introduction of extended service in the evening, DHL Parcel is targeting in particularemployed persons and families with their children who don’t want to wait for their online purchasesduring the day by offering them attractive delivery options. This results in nearly 99% ofshipments reaching the recipient at the first delivery attempt since a fixed time slot has alreadybeen chosen.
“Our goal is to leverage new e-commerce segments in Germany. We are convinced that peopleincreasingly order more and more convenience goods via internet such as drugstore products, medicine and food – so we offer appropriate solutions for that,” Busch added.
At the same time, retailers trading in already established e-commerce sectors such as fashion orelectronics can also profit from DHL’s new same day courier service. This enables them to offertheir recipients even faster and more convenient delivery options for parcel shipments, e.g.urgently needed equipment or spare parts or last-minute purchases, thus increasing customerloyalty, DHL said.
