FedEx employees worldwide volunteer in community projects for FedEx Cares Week

FedEx has launched its ninth annual FedEx Cares Week this week with its staff both in the USAand around the globe volunteering in community services for their favourite local

organisations.

This year’s FedEx Cares Week is being held from 16-20 September in more than 40 US citiesincluding Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Colorado Springs, Dallas, Detroit, Indianapolis, Los Angeles,Memphis, Miami, Newark, Portland, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington,DC. FedEx team members in other countries such as Canada, France, Italy, Mexico, Brazil, Australiaand China will also serve their local communities. The event is marked by FedEx’s 40th anniversaryin April.

Among the local service projects in the USA this year are activities such as redesigning aschool library in Atlanta; painting, organising and landscaping a playground in Colorado Springs;processing and storing donations at a food bank in Indianapolis. Other initiatives includerenovating transitional housing for homeless families in Seattle, building homes with Habitat forHumanity in Memphis or “Rebuilding the Jersey Shore” from Superstorm Sandy in Newark.

Beyond the USA, FedEx employees have the opportunity of beautifying a lake in Guangzhou, China,planting trees in Thailand, preparing and distributing more than 1,000 meals in Australia orcooking gardening and painting at a foster home in Italy. In Latin America, they can alsoparticipate in building transitional homes as part of the TECHO programme.

“FedEx Cares Week gives FedEx team members across the globe the opportunity to make a differencein their own backyards,” Rose Flenorl, manager of Global Citizenship at FedEx, said. “A passion forvolunteerism is ingrained in the FedEx corporate culture, and FedEx Cares Week is just one of themany ways we join together to give back.”

This ninth FedEx Cares Week also serves as the formal kick-off for the annual FedEx cares UnitedWay volunteer campaign taking place from September 3 – November 1. In addition to volunteeringthousands of hours each year, FedEx and its team members gave more than $14.2 million to the UnitedWay and other local nonprofit organisations in 2012.
