TNT Express has ensured cruise passengers keep cool aboard their ship with the successfulspecial delivery of an urgently needed spare part from Germany to southern Spain.
TNT Express Germany was asked to deliver a room temperature control device from sensortechnology designer and manufacturer Thermokon, based in Mittenaar, central Germany, to a cruiseliner docked at the port of Cadiz, southern Spain, within 24 hours.
The device, which ensures comfortable temperatures throughout the vessel, had to be deliveredbefore noon the next day so it could be installed to enable the ship to embark on an extensivecruise across the Atlantic. It would not have been possible for the ship to make its entire voyagewithout the new sensor.
For the transportation of the spare part, TNT Express Germany’s staff in Siegen selected theSpecial Express product, using the TNT Express European Air Network with final delivery via TNTExpress Special Services in Spain. The driver made the delivery to the ship mechanic in person forimmediate installation and the Atlantic tour could therefore start as scheduled.
A precise and personal delivery to Cadiz within 24 hours wouldn’t have been possible throughdelivery via a standard network, TNT stressed.
“Our Special Services capabilities enabled this fast delivery while the ship was still docked –the ideal situation. But if for some reason we had not been able to deliver at the port, we wouldhave delivered by helicopter at sea,” said Martin Reder, Director Special Services & ValueAdded Services, TNT Express Germany. Special Services always offers the possibility of air deliverywhen necessary.
TNT Express said its Special Services portfolio is positioned to cover these types of complexdeliveries with requirements that go beyond its network. Special Services includes a suite of TimeCritical, Freight and Value-Added services for domestic and international destinationsworldwide.
“It’s a significant part of our business, an important add-on to our offer to customers, withtailored solutions for key vertical markets,” explained Stuart Stobie, TNT Express Director ofSpecial Services.
