DHL Express Russia opens second logistics centre in St. Petersburg

DHL Express Russia has opened a new logistics centre in St. Petersburg to improve deliveries innorthern districts of the country’s second-largest city with customers now receiving their

shipments within 30 minutes of the courier’s departure until the first delivery to anywhere in thecity.

Due to growing volumes in St. Petersburg, DHL Express felt the need to improve its courierdelivery considering the city’s geographical particularities and the conditions of moderninfrastructure.

The 3,700 sqm facility is the second DHL Express logistics centre in St. Petersburg. Since 2008,the company has been operating a modern terminal in Pulkovo including customs clearance ofinternational freight and warehousing.

DHL Express said the city of St. Petersburg has enormous strategic importance for its business,in terms of developing both international and domestic delivery services. It is the second mostdensely populated area in Russia and is closely connected to DHL’s global network through a dailyflight on the route St. Petersburg – Helsinki – Leipzig. In addition, it is the centre of DHLExpress logistics operations in Russia’s north-western region with more than 250 staff, including90 drivers, and 130 commercial vehicles.

“Transportation flows are growing quite dynamically in St. Petersburg and our customers’requirements for service quality are also increasingly growing. To respond to those expectationsand to have new opportunities for the strategic development of DHL Express in St. Petersburg, wedecided to open another modern logistics centre which will help us increase the efficiency ofoperational processes and gain a competitive advantage in customer service,” said Igor Lisnyansky,DHL Express, Managing Director St. Petersburg and North-West region.

So far 24 of the 70 courier routes in the city have already been transferred to the servicecentre which is expected to handle at least 40% of all shipments in St. Petersburg. It alsofeatures a warehouse complex with strategic spare parts.
