All You Need, the start-up online supermarket partly owned by Deutsche Post DHL, is expandingacross Germany with home deliveries on a selected day or in the evening.
The German company, which launched in 2010, announced today that customers can now select theday that they want food and other items bought online to be delivered. Until now, next-day deliverywas the standard option.
In parallel, All You Need is also extending its evening delivery service throughout thedensely-populated Rhine-Ruhr region following a successful test in Cologne. It will add Berlin asthe next major urban area in mid-September and then gradually extend to other cities across thecountry by end-2014. Evening deliveries are made between 18.00-20.00 or 20.00-22.00.
The service extension is responding to consumer needs, the company explained. According to aninternal survey, 51% of German consumers would like to have food purchased online delivered at themost precise time possible while 37% would prefer evening deliveries.
Managing director and co-founder Jens Drubel said: “It’s not a problem to order and ship foodonline. Customers’ top need is to be present when the delivery is made. After introducing eveningdelivery we are now taking a further step towards integrating ‘online food’ into everyday life witha free choice of delivery day.”
The company, which claims to offer twice as many items as a traditional supermarket, offers freedelivery for orders of more than €20. All goods are delivered by DHL Parcel Germany.
The company’s two shareholders are Drubel and Deutsche Post DHL, which invested in the companyin 2011 and then bought out co-founder Christian Heitmeyer in October 2012. Sales revenues andvolumes have not been disclosed.
