FedEx expands capability in northern China

FedEx expands facility in Beijing

FedEx Express has greatly expanded its operations facility at Beijing Capital InternationalAirport to increase the handling capacity for international shipments in response to growing

customer demand for inbound and outbound delivery services in northern China.

The new FedEx facility is located in the Beijing Tianzhu Free Trade Zone, dedicated to high-endindustries that support the development of the economy of Beijing.

Located on the western side of the airport, the upgraded facility is nearly four times the sizeof the previous one with an office and warehouse area totalling more than 7,800 sqm. Sortingcapacity is nearly four times greater than before with up to 6,000 packages now being sorted perhour.

Equipped with a simplified parcel scanning system and improved wireless communications, theexpanded facility has reduced the package-handling cycle time, enabling faster and more efficientdeliveries for customers in 16 major cities in northern China. The facility handles shipments from14 inbound and outbound FedEx flights per week that link to the company’s global network.

David Cunningham, president Asia Pacific at FedEx Express, commented: “The expansion of ourfacility at Beijing Airport reinforces our long-term commitment to enhance the service and value weprovide our customers, not just in China, but in the Asia Pacific region. This will furtherconsolidate our operational strength, with customers benefitting from more reliable access andflexibility to take advantage of regional and global trade opportunities.”

According to China Customs statistics, Beijing’s imports and exports totaled US$408 billion in2012, representing a year-on-year increase of 4.7%. As one of the biggest international expresscompanies in the Beijing Tianzhu Airport Industrial Zone, FedEx said it had been continuouslyenhancing its operation facilities and networks to support China’s growing international trade andthe increasing demand for reliable, fast delivery services.
