DPD Germany has expanded its depot in Marl, North Rhine-Westphalia, with a €850,000 investmentdue to growing parcel volumes in the region.
The sorting terminal at the facility, which is located is on the northern edge of the Rhine-Ruhrindustrial region, has been increased by 800 sqm to 4,385 sqm. The number of delivery tours in thedepot area has been increased from 87 to 96 and the number of parking spaces for delivery vans hasbeen expanded from 84 to 112.
DPD now handles some 31,000 parcels a day at Marl, with sorting capacity for up to 6,000 parcelsper hour at peak times.
“DPD has been generating double-digit growth rates in parcel volumes at the Marl facility foryears. With the investment, we are demonstrating our long-term commitment to the region and alsocreating new jobs,” said Thomas Schenk, DPD depot manager in Marl. The number of employees hasincreased by five to 105 workers.
The initial depot in Marl was opened in 2007 and has served as an important hub for DPD in theRuhr area since then. It serves various towns including Gelsenkirchen, Recklinghausen, Coesfeld andBocholt.
