UPS increases security of sensitive shipment delivery with upgraded service

UPS has launched a new service for high-value, time- and temperature-sensitive shipmentscombining monitoring and risk management solutions to mitigate product spoilage and revenue

UPS Proactive Response Secure protects customers against lost profits ensuring that time-andtemperature-sensitive shipments reach their destinations safely and on time. It guarantees up tothe retail value, in addition to other costs, when unexpected events occur including weatherdelays.

The solution is available throughout the USA, including Puerto Rico, and for outbound shipmentsto the European Union. It comprises complete coverage and end-to-end visibility while also coveringdamaged or delayed shipments and expedited delivery costs.

UPS Proactive Response Secure expands on UPS services for healthcare companies designed toprevent delays of time- and temperature-sensitive shipments with round-the-clock, 24/7 proactivemonitoring and intervention services. Nearly 15 million packages were shipped using UPS ProactiveResponse in 2012. The service has been recently expanded into Europe.

The new Proactive Response Secure service is optimal for healthcare shipments, includingspecialty pharmaceuticals, biologics, diagnostic specimens, implantable surgical materials andclinical trial shipments. It is also effective in other industries with high-value shipments ortime- or temperature-sensitive needs, UPS noted.

“This is the highest level of service we offer. By leveraging our proprietary technology, UPScan identify shipments that will be impacted by a delay,” Bill Hook, Vice President of UPS GlobalHealthcare Strategy, said. “With the addition of UPS Proactive Response Secure, we are givingcustomers an additional solution only available through UPS.”

FedEx offers a somewhat comparable service for sensitive shipments called SenseAware. Basedaround a multi-sensor device, this accompanies critical, high-value shipments and transmits vitalinformation such as the shipment’s location, the temperature and notification of potential problemssuch as exposure to light.
