Croatian EU accession to increase Eurodis volumes

European delivery network Eurodis today predicted it will see rising international business withCroatia after the Balkan country joins the European Union on July 1 this year, with local partner

Overseas Express and British partner UK Mail among the expected beneficiaries.

Customs duties for EU shipments will be eliminated, meaning that shipping to and from Croatiawill become cheaper and faster, Eurodis and UK Mail stated. 

Eurodis, a transport network for shipments ranging from 1kg parcels to 800kg pallets (combinedfreight) in 34 European countries, said it will introduce daily transport lines between Croatia andGermany from July.

“Companies like Eurodis, who are specialised in international transport will see a sharpincrease in volumes,” predicted Carsten Siebe, managing director at Eurodis GmbH.

The Croatian partner and shareholder of Eurodis is Overseas Express, the market leader in thecombined freight sector, which will deliver international shipments to destinations across theBalkan country.

Boris Brkovic, CEO at Overseas Express, said: ‘‘We have been a member of the Eurodis networksince 2010. Based on this stable collaboration, a project team is already working on operationaladjustments to ensure the best possible lead times in anticipation of increasing shipmentvolumes.”

Brkovic also expects “an essential increase in international volumes, especially on imports fromother EU countries as a result of the removal of customs duties.”

UK Mail said that it now expects ‘hassle-free’ shipping to Croatia in partnership with Eurodisand Overseas Express following the removal of customs barriers.

Overseas Express, founded in 1993, was bought in 2003 by Austrian Post and has benefited frominvestment by the postal group since then. Overseas, with 14 depots, 170 vehicles and 290employees, is the Croatian parcel market leader with a market share of about 40%, according toEurodis. It is also the local UPS partner in Croatia.

The main Eurodis network partners are Germany’s trans-o-flex, UK Mail, Austrian Post, PostNL,Italy’s SDA and Spain’s Redur.
