The German courier and express services association BdKEP has launched its FAIR KEP award scheme torecognise the social responsibility practices of companies in line with its newly launched FAIR KEP
code.The code was developed this year following claims of exploitative practices in the industry,including low wages and long working hours. It recommends voluntary guidelines for companies in thecourier, express and parcels (CEP) sector to take responsibility for the consequences of theirdecisions and activities on society and the environment through transparent and ethical behaviour.The areas covered include the market, workplace, environment and communities with the guidelinesgiving recommendations for fair partnerships with cooperating carriers, reconciliation of work andfamily and eco-friendly transportation.
The BdKEP has now honoured various companies that helped to develop its new code. Theseinclude Night Star Express GmbH, Berlin-based messenger transport logistic GmbH, medlog 24 GmbH(overnight system logistics for medical sample material) and Hamburg-based 291919 Kurier. Allfulfilled the FAIR KEP code membership criteria and gained a FAIR KEP certificate from the BdKEP atthe same time.
In future, the FAIR KEP awards will be given once a year. The winners will be selected by ajury of experts. Participation is open to all companies that have joined the FAIR KEP code and havebeen examined through an audit by an independent certifier.
