DHL Express and US Commerce Department stimulate US-Canada trade

DHL Express and the US Commerce Department have launched an initiative to provide DHL customersin Canada with trade and marketing information as well as access to suppliers and buyers in the

US.

Through the partnership between DHL with the US Commercial Service (USCS), the export promotionagency of the Commerce Department’s International Trade Association, which was announced at the Oiland Gas Expo, DHL Express Canada and the US Department of Commerce aim to bring together DHLcustomers in Canada and US manufacturers or sellers in order to encourage cross border trade.Furthermore, Canadian importers are provided with industry-specific advice on exports from the US,as well as leads and marketing information from the USCS, the US embassies and consulates.

“This is an important opportunity for our customers in Canada,” said Andrew Paul, Head ofCommercial, DHL Express Canada. “Through the Global Buyers Initiative, companies in Canada can linkup with US suppliers specific to their field, attend influential trade shows like the Oil and GasExpo to meet potential buyers and distributors and receive support on international sales andmarketing, as well as US government financing and other programmes. These new trade-relatedresources will be valuable business tools for companies of all sizes.”

A key focus of the initiative is the Canadian oil industry since international oil companies inthe Canadian oil sands grew in recent years and thus provide ample business opportunities to USsuppliers selling parts and tools, as well as maintenance, repair and operations equipment.

In 2012, Alberta and the Alberta oil sands projects accounted for 11.1 per cent of DHL ExpressCanada’s revenue, and 9.6 per cent of the company’s Canadian shipments. According to the company,DHL currently achieves a 92 per cent customs clearance rate upon arrival through CIS certifiedstaff and partnerships with certified customs specialists.
