FedEx Freight to raise shipping rates by average 4.5 per cent next month

FedEx Freight will increase its shipping rates by 4.5 per cent on average, with effect from 1 July2013, following a recent announcement of a higher rates increase by UPS Freight.



The new prices will apply to FedEx Freight shipments within the USA (including Alaska,Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands), between the contiguous USA and Canada, withinCanada, between the contiguous USA and Mexico, and within Mexico.

FedEx Freight said the rate changes apply to shipments covered by the FXF 1000, FXF 501 andother related series base rates. Additional changes will include absolute minimum charges andaccessorial rates and charges.

The FedEx Freight fuel surcharge will remain unchanged and is one of the lowest in the LTLindustry, the company claimed. The published fuel surcharge rates of the next six largest LTLcarriers are at least 29 per cent higher than FedEx Freight fuel surcharge rates, based on theaverage national price of diesel fuel as of May 27, 2013, it added.

FedEx previously announced increases to shipping rates for FedEx Express and FedEx Grounddivisions which came into effect on 7 January 2013.

UPS Freight put its rates for the US, Canada and Mexico up by 5.9 per cent as of June 10,2013.
