TNT Express said today it will cut 850 out of 3,000 jobs in Italy to downscale operations inresponse to the tough business conditions in the country.
The company said the “difficult economic circumstances and trading conditions in Italy requireTNT Express to implement significant measures to increase productivity and reduce costs”. The goalis to secure TNT Express’ long-term market-leading position in the country.
In concrete terms, TNT Express plans to reorganise its overhead and supporting activitiescombining smaller Italian operations into larger depots at strategic locations throughout thecountry. This will concern around 20 facilities across Italy but service levels and full networkconnectivity will be maintained.
The reorganisation plan is in line with the Dutch company’s overall improvement programme ‘Deliver!’ that was recently announced.
As part of the programme, the company will also invest in depot sorting and IT and enhancecustomer experience through better customer-facing and operational processes.
