Expanding UK courier firm CitySprint posts strong growth in 2012

British same-day courier company CitySprint announced record revenues in 2012 rising 36.1% to£101.1 million as a result of organic growth and various acquisitions.

The company’s EBITDA also went up by 33.6% on increased turnover with profit after tax up 18.8%,although the profit figures were not disclosed.

Last year, CitySprint’s organic growth continued across all its business units including SameDayCourier, SameDay Logistics and International & UK Overnight. Growth was boosted by investmentsin innovative technologies bringing particular benefits to retail and healthcare divisions whichalso achieved very strong organic growth during the year.

2012 was also the first full year during which CitySprint benefitted from its major acquisitionof Lewis Day in November 2011 which is one of the UK’s most successful passenger car and same daydelivery courier firms. In July last year, the company acquired Scarlet Couriers which was itssecond largest acquisition to date. In December 2012, the acquisition of Eagle Express WorldwideCouriers was completed.

“2012 was another strong year of growth for CitySprint fuelled by a number of factors includingcontinued investment in new technology, a series of successful acquisitions and strong organicgrowth. We will continue our investment programmes in the business as we focus primarily on organicgrowth during 2013 and look for further acquisitions which can complement the requirements of ourgrowing customer base,” CitySprint CEO Patrick Gallagher said.

“The CitySprint brand reputation in all segments of the business has gone from strength tostrength and our flexible and dynamic UK-wide same-day delivery network is supporting innovativeservice and product offerings that bring significant benefits to our customers across a wide-rangeof market sectors,” he added.
