DPD is not charging customers for parcel deliveries and returns to and from parts of Germanywhere massive flooding has seriously disrupted operations.
The company said today that deliveries in Bavaria, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Rhineland-Palatinateand Thuringia are being delayed or disrupted by flooding caused by dramatically high river levels. The situation in some districts is so serious that deliveries are impossible and shipments arebeing returned to senders.
DPD has set up a crisis team to cope with the impact on operations and is informing customers bye-mail and via website information on the latest situation.
“The flooding in the affected areas is an exceptional situation and so we want to support ourcustomers in an un-bureaucratic manner. As a one-off sign of goodwill we will not charge for thefirst delivery as well as the return of affected parcels,” said Boris Winkelmann, Chief OperatingOfficer of DPD GeoPost (Deutschland) GmbH.
DPD customers would be able to re-send parcels to recipients at the usual rates once thesituation had eased, he added.
