UPS Freight hikes US, Canada and Mexico rates

UPS Freight, the UPS road freight operator, has announced that it will increase its rates by5.9% in the US, Canada and Mexico, effective on June 10, 2013.

The rate adjustment for non-contractual shipments will apply to minimum charge,less-than-truckload (LTL) and truckload rates (TL), as well as accessorial charges. It follows a2012 UPS Freight rate increase for the US, Canada and Mexico by 5.9%. FedEx, on the other hand,increased its trucking rates for the same countries by 6.9% in 2012 and is yet to announce its 2013rate changes.

Last year UPS Freight increased revenues 3% to $2.6 billion despite fewer LTL shipments thanksmostly to higher prices, and also improved its profits slightly, UPS stated in its annualreport.

UPS Freight’s services for heavy freight includes diverse LTL and TL offerings such as the newLTL Guaranteed A.M., which can provide delivery by noon to select ZIP codes in the contiguousUnited States and Washington, D.C. UPS Freight’s network provides regional, interregional andlong-haul LTL service as well as truckload, intermodal and dedicated contract carriage solutions.Overall, UPS Freight operates some 200 service centres.
