TNT

TNT Express has improved services for the Australian mining industry with the introduction ofnew custom vehicles to carry out time-critical deliveries in the western part of the country and

has signed up for a trial of parcel lockers in the country.

The new Volkswagen Crafter 50 vans, staffed by two drivers at all times, are custom-fitted witha sleeper cab, GPS tracking capability and satellite phones and will be used for pickup anddelivery of urgent shipments bound for mine sites across Western Australia. The vehicles cantransport cartons, pallets and crates up to 1300kg and are suitable for deliveries of heavymechanical parts for repairing large mining vehicles.

TNT will use the new vans to complement its existing Mission Critical vehicles. They will beavailable 24/7 for their mining-related missions and will also make deliveries of urgent medicalsupplies and equipment to businesses requiring the service. In remote areas of Western Australia, air transport is not available so that time-critical deliveries have to be carried out via roadtransport.

“These new vans represent an optimal freight solution for the region,” Mark Hamilton, directorof sales and marketing for TNT Express, said. “All companies in Western Australia, not just thosein the mining sector, can benefit from this very specialist addition to our Mission Criticalportfolio.”

Separately, TNT has signed an agreement with Australian parcel lockers supplier TZ Limited (TZL)to start a trial programme test whether the company’s parcel lockers meet the delivery needs ofTNT’s customers. Depending on the success of the trial, TNT and TZL will negotiate an agreement forfurther cooperation.

Andrew Lysaght, Director Special Services at TNT, said: “Partnering with TZ allows us to investin a supply chain solution in the B2C market and fulfil the needs for our customers’ customerparcel collection. We’re excited to pursue this opportunity with TZ on a trial basis and to offerour customers an alternative solution to the collection of their parcels.”

TZL has already signed up Toll Group and Fastway Couriers for trials of its expanding parceldistribution network in Australia and won SingPost for a pilot test of parcel terminals inSingapore.
