DHL Supply Chain is expanding its operations in Asia with a major €140 million investment inseven new facilities in South-East Asia and a €9 million in a new multi-user site in India.
With €140 million to be spent in South East Asia by 2015, DHL Supply Chain is reinforcing itsmarket-leading position in the region across the key consumer, retail, automotive, technologyindustries and growing its business in emerging sectors. The bulk of the investment will go intonew facilities, advanced IT solutions, logistics expansion and staff training.
The seven new facilities to be completed this year include bespoke solutions to target growth inspecific industries. Earlier this year, DHL launched a 17,000 sqm built-to-suit warehouse inCimanggis, Indonesia, with special features tailored for customers in the fast-moving consumergoods (FMCG) industry. The company will also launch a new facility at Bangna, Thailand, this year,to support its continuous growth in the retail, fashion and consumer sectors, and a newbuilt-to-suit facility in Bac Ninh, Vietnam, to cater to the retail, consumer and technologysectors. Developments are also underway for new facilities in Singapore and parts of Malaysia.
In Vietnam, in particular, the company plans to invest €10 million in new facilities and ITsolutions including a Warehousing Management System and Transportation Management System toincrease efficiency and visibility, grow its transport fleet and strengthen its workforce. Itssecond 10,000 sqm distribution centre in Bac Ninh is due to be completed in the third quarter of2013. DHL Supply Chain Vietnam also expects to increase its staff by over 170%, creating some 1,400new jobs. By 2015, it will have over 2,200 people employed in its operations locally.
“We plan to double our size in the next two to three years. We’re already off to a strong start– by the end of 2013, we will have opened seven best-in-class multi-user facilities acrossstrategic locations in South East Asia,” Oscar de Bok, DHL Supply Chain CEO for South and SoutheastAsia, said. “These investments in quality, facilities, transport capabilities, IT and people arenecessary to meet the needs of our customers in the region.”
By 2015, DHL Supply Chain plans to grow its staff by some 65% to approximately 25,000 peopleacross South-East Asia and add over 50% more warehouse capacity to operate around 1,400,000 sqmacross the region.

In India, DHL Supply Chain has invested INR 650 million (€9 million) in a new 30,000 sqmmulti-user facility in Luhari, Delhi, targeting the consumer, retail and automotive sectors. Thestate-of-the-art facility with the latest equipment and technology is due to be expanded in phasesto 55,742 sqm. Complementing its first multi-user warehouse in Bhiwandi, Mumbai, the new facilityis DHL Supply Chain’s second multi-user site in India and part of its ongoing infrastructureinvestment in the country.
