DPD launches parcel shop network in Baltics

DPD

DPD is rolling out parcel shops in the Baltics with an initial network of 36 locations inLithuania and Estonia respectively and 104 in Latvia that have started operating this month.

The drop-off/pick-up points have been installed at well-known stores, small shops and otherpopular locations, for example flower shops which are not usually so busy and clients don’t have towait.

By the end of the year, the company plans to expand the number of parcel points in Lithuania to100. The service is starting with 19 parcel shops in Vilnius, 7 in Kaunas, 4 in Klaipėda, 3 inPanevėžys, and 2 in Šiauliai.

“We want Lithuanians to think about being able to send/collect parcels at locations which areboth convenient and frequently used by them and so we propose to start our service simultaneouslyin five major cities and the rest of the Baltic region”, Indrė Puišė, CEO DPD Baltics, said.Parcels from a DPD parcel shop are delivered to recipients in Lithuania and other Europeancountries by DPD couriers.

Along with convenient locations, another advantage of the DPD parcel points are the longeropening hours which will be much appreciated by those who are working.

“People in Western and Northern Europe are used to sending parcels in a more flexible and fasterway than those in the Baltic States and this is determined to a great extent by DPD parcel shops orsimilar points that have operated in these countries for a number of years,” Puišė added. “Today, when Lithuanian consumers increasingly prefer smaller, boutique-type shops or service points, weoffer a simple delivery service to complement this European trend.”

The network of DPD parcel shops also opens up greater opportunities for the e-commerce segmentproviding another delivery option to the closest parcel shop, the company added.

DPD Baltics is part of the GeoPost Group which has the largest number of parcel points deployedin France (6,000) and Germany (4,000). The company also operates solid parcel point networks inSweden, Spain and Finland counting 1,700, 1,269 and 1,100 respectively.
