PostNL subsidiary trans-o-flex Belgium has completely renewed its fleet with the acquisition of 51new trucks with temperature-controlled cargo space.
The new trucks allow trans-o-flex Belgium to transport shipments at constant temperatureranges of either 2 to 8 degrees or 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. The investment sum was not disclosed.
The fleet upgrade, required by growing demand for temperature-controlled shipping, alsoenables trans-o-flex to meet new stricter European regulations regarding transport anddocumentation listed in the European Commission’s guidelines on Good Distribution Practice (GDP) ofmedicinal products for human use.
Trans-o-flex Belgium acquired a total of 46 MAN trucks with conditioned cargo space, sevenof which are able pull a trailer and thereby double their capacity. The company also acquired fivesemi-trailer trucks which can also pull trailers and which are suited for deliveries of largerorders. In terms of trailers, trans-o-flex acquired a total of seven, also including semi-trailers,with conditioned cargo space.
The European Commission’s GDP is a new set of rules that puts strict quality requirements onthe transportation of medicinal shipments, among others, and both temperature control anddocumentation play a key role in these regulations. The European Commission has released an updatedversion of its GDP guidelines in March which will partly come into effect on September 8, 2013.
PostNL acquired trans-o-flex’s loss-making operations in the Netherlands and Belgium fromAustrian Post for an undisclosed sum in March 2012.
