Fast-growing Asian logistics group Kerry Logistics has started operating its regional logisticshub in Singapore which will also function as the company’s headquarters for its South East Asian
operations.With a total area of 34,500 sqm, the four-storey facility offers a complete range of integratedlogistics services to regional customers. Initially employing 60 staff at the hub, Kerry Logisticshopes to increase the number by up to 20% in the second half of this year.
“The hub will facilitate the needs of our high-end customers in the fashion & lifestyle andelectronics industries. We have special areas designated for the handling of these time sensitiveand valuable products and there is a high level of security,” Robert Tan, Managing Director, SouthAsia, said.
In addition, the company will also focus its Asian supply chain management activities at the hubto meet growing demand from clients in South East Asia and Australia.
Special features include ramp-up facilities accommodating a 40 foot container with direct accessto warehouse floors, minimising the turnaround time for inbound and outbound goods.
In line with the company’s environmental commitment with eco-friendly logistics facilities inAsia, the Singapore hub incorporates green features including an estimated 30-35% energy savingsthrough maximising natural light and reducing the need for artificial light.
The facility will also have a rainwater harvesting system for irrigating the surroundinglandscape and plants, and an air-conditioning system that improves chiller efficiency and utilisesrefrigerants with low ozone depletion properties.
“The building is targeting compliance with LEED (Gold) requirements during the second quarter of2013,” the company stressed. Kerry Logistics has achieved Green Mark Gold certification inSingapore, pending final approval by Building and Construction Authority (BCA).
