Hermes invests £25m in UK hub and wins European fashion contract

Hermes has invested £25 million in a new hub in Warrington, northern England, to increase capacityin response to its fast growth and has also won an exclusive cross-border distribution contract

with outdoor fashion retailer Atlas for Men.

The 15,000 sqm parcel distribution hub in Warrington will have the capacity to sort around560,000 parcels a day almost tripling the capacity of the company’s existing site in the regionwhile creating 60 new jobs.

The facility will be fully automated with top spec sortation equipment to support changes inconsumer demand both in terms of volume and types of products. 40 inbound doors and 54 outbounddoors fitted with dock levellers will enable wheeled access to trailers adding flexibility tooperations. In line with the company’s environmental commitment, the new buildings on the 18 acresite are eco-friendly and energy efficient, along with the new, fuel efficient supporting fleet.

Gary Winter, Sales & Marketing Director at Hermes UK, said: “This new hub will ensure wecontinue to provide the best possible service for our existing clients. The massive throughputcapability will also give us room to continue to grow our business as we take advantage of thecontinuing surge in online shopping. The built in flexibility will allow us to meet any changingrequirements our clients might have such as later assured collection cut off times and a higherproportion of next-day delivery.”

Hermes is working with Omega Warrington Ltd (OWL) on the facility that is being constructedwithin the high profile £1bn mixed-use development site situated on the major distribution andlogistics hub Omega North.

Meanwhile, Paris-based Atlas for Men signed up Hermes Germany for exclusive delivery ofaround 2 million parcels annually across Germany and Austria. As part of the cooperation thatstarted in January this year, Hermes will take over the goods directly at the warehouse of theoutdoor clothes retailer to distribute them to end-customers. The exclusive agreement comprises thecomplete distribution ranging from pick-up to optional parcel delivery to end-customers andhandling of returns.
