DHL Supply Chain is constructing a 40,000 sqm fashion logistics centre for German retailer TomTailor in Hamburg.
The new warehouse, due to be operational in the first half of 2015, complies with the latesttechnological standards and is designed to cope with the company’s volume growth expected for theupcoming years, mainly in the wholesale sector.
The fashion logistics facility will create up to 200 new jobs and will be operated alongside thealready existing DHL Supply Chain multi-user warehouse in eastern Hamburg. The value of theinvestment was not disclosed. DHL and Tom Tailor have been working together since 2008.

The new DHL facility in Hamburg will feature several technological innovations, includingtelescopic conveyors with vacuum tube lifters to facilitate the unloading of boxes. Also, thewarehouse will be equipped with an automatic box dispatching system with a length of around fourkilometres, as well as modern packing machines.

DHL Supply Chain handles more 40 million items per year for Tom Tailor and volumes are expectedto rise to 100 million items per year by 2020. In 2012, Tom Tailor Group had overall revenues of€629.7 million, 53% more than in the previous year, due to the acquisition of German retailerBonita and strong e-commerce revenue growth, which rose 42.9% to €35.3 million.
