TNT Express Germany md quits after strategy announcement

Thomas Kraus, the long-serving head of TNT Express in Germany, has resigned one day after thepresentation of the company’s new strategy.

TNT Express Germany announced that Kraus “had decided to continue his career outside TNTExpress” but did not give any further explanation for his departure. The 46-year-old, who workedfor TNT for 23 years, had been head of TNT Express Germany since 2007 and had previously been headof sales, marketing and customer service.

He will be replaced by Mark Fonseca who has been with TNT since 1987 and held various managementpositions in Europe, the Middle East and the USA. The 53-year-old, born in India, was previouslyRegional Finance Director Northern Europe & North America and between 2004 and 2007 wasdirector of Corporate Services, Information & Communication Services as well as Finance &Administration for TNT Express Germany.

On Monday (March 25), TNT announced its new Deliver! strategy, designed to reduce costs by €220million a year, improve profit margins and focus on the company’s core business in Europe. Themeasures, which will affect some 4,000 jobs, include regional consolidation of administrative tasksand network restructuring in several countries, including Germany. 

TNT Express Germany is one of TNT’s largest business units, with 31 branches, some 4,000 staffand a fleet of 1,800 vehicles. In 2012, Germany had net sales of €742 million, according to TNT’sannual report.
