UPS names new heads for Europe and Emerging Markets

UPS today announced the appointments of Cindy Miller as president of UPS Europe and DerekWoodward as president of Emerging Markets, effective April 30, 2013, in its latest top

international management changes.

The moves follow the appointment of Jim Barber, the current head of UPS Europe, as the new UPSInternational president in place of Dan Brutto, who is retiring from the company at the end ofApril.

“International trade will continue to grow and UPS is competitively positioned through itssuperior technology and global integrated logistics network to deliver,” said Dan Brutto, presidentof UPS International. “Cindy and Derek’s leadership will play an ever increasing role as we lookahead to growth opportunities, particularly as we strengthen our position in emergingmarkets. Both are leaders in every sense of the word, from a solid commitment to customerservice to adopting best-in-class sustainable business practices.”

Miller, currently president of UPS UK, Ireland and Nordics, will be responsible for all UPSoperations in more than 120 countries and territories across Europe, the Middle East and Africa(EMEA). The EMEA region is the company’s largest non-US operation and accounted for about half ofUPS’s $12.1 billion international package revenues in 2012.

“UPS will continue to focus energy and resources on Europe as it plays a large role in ourlong-term strategy,” she said. “We see continued growth because we help our customers be morecompetitive on a global scale.”    

The 50-year-old, a native of Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, USA, is a UPS veteran of 24 years and hasheld a variety of senior leadership positions in the US and Europe, including president of UPSSouth Europe and Africa. She began working for UPS as a package car driver and worked her way upthrough positions of increasing responsibility. 

Miller recently led UPS’s efforts to manage the logistics and delivery of more than 30 millionitems during the 2012 London Olympic Games. “UPS delivered more than 30 million items during the2012 London Olympic Games and Cindy is the leader responsible for UPS’s outstanding performance,”Brutto commented. “In addition, she also ensured UPS delivered innovative sustainability solutionsthrough our technology and logistics solutions.  Cindy is a well-rounded executive with alaser focus on operational excellence and superior customer service.”
 
Meanwhile, Woodward, currently president of Global Integrations, has been named to lead a newteam dedicated to developing and implementing UPS’s emerging markets strategy. The 28-year UPSveteran, a former head of UPS Asia Pacific, has extensive international experience, particularly inmarkets that have experienced rapid growth, such as China.
