CitySprint acquires another regional UK courier

British same-day courier company CitySprint is continuing its growth strategy with anotheracquisition, this time of Sameday UK, a small Warrington-based distribution provider operating

across the UK and mainland Europe.

CitySprint said the acquisition of Sameday UK’s operations in Cheshire, which include a localand national customer base, would further expand the scale and reach of its existing network,comprising 37 sorting centres and 2,500 couriers in the UK. Sameday UK’s employees have beentransferred to CitySprint with local contact details remaining the same.

Patrick Gallagher, CEO of CitySprint, said: “This deal marks yet another important stepforward in our growth strategy. We plan to keep increasing our reach through local acquisitions, toensure that we can offer our customers the best possible service.”

Len Rainford, founder and managing director of Sameday UK, commented: “CitySprint shares ourcommitment to customer service, so we’ll be working together to ensure that the integration is aseamless process. For the time being, it is ‘business as usual’ for our customers, with the sameteam and contact number in place.” He founded the company in 1996.

With numerous acquisitions in recent years, CitySprint has pressed ahead with an ambitionexpansion programme and has secured a significant share of the UK same-day market. Following thetakeovers of Jaguar Couriers and The Dot Courier in 2009, Post Haste Group, Goldstar Couriers andRoad Runners in 2010, and TnM Couriers, Mainlink Courier Services, Airlink Worldwide, Lewis Day andMedical Services in 2011, CitySprint also acquired Scarlet Couriers in July last year and EagleExpress Worldwide Couriers in December.
