UK parcel delivery group Yodel played Cupid for St Valentine’s Day on 14 February with over 100,000flower deliveries and has also been recognised by British retailers with a ‘Going the Extra Mile’
award.This year’s Valentine’s Day represents a 20 per cent increase in floral deliveries by Yodelcompared to last year. Delivering for several well-known floristry clients, the company isspecialised, among others, in handling delicate items such as bouquets, which cannot go through theusual parcel sorting process.
For London ‘love birds’, Yodel handled the highest number of Valentine’s bouquets with nearly8,500 deliveries from its Vauxhall service centre and a further 23,500 being delivered from itssurrounding bases to the capital and surrounding counties.
Outside of the South East, Yodel’s workforce in Middleton handled flower deliveries for 4,000customers in the north while Bristol drivers delivered another 3,600 floral shipments. In Scotland,Yodel’s drivers and couriers made 3,400 deliveries.
Yodel’s Chief Commercial Officer, Peter Fisher, commented on the delivery volumes:“Valentine’s Day is a key event in our floral clients’ calendars and we invested in detailedplanning to ensure that these time sensitive and delicate deliveries reached their recipients onthe big day.”
Separately, Yodel has been honoured with the industry award ‘Going the Extra Mile’ at thismonth’s MetaPack Delivery Conference in London.
With a share of around 17 per cent in the UK’s parcel market, the company delivers over 150million parcels per year on behalf of the majority of the country’s top retailers. 75 per cent ofits deliveries are made directly to consumers, while the remaining 25 per cent target businessesand stores.
