British mail and parcels operator UK Mail has cut prices for its consumer and SME parcelproducts to win more business from online shoppers and retailers.

The company’s consumer brand ‘ipostparcels’ has cut prices by 50 pence for all five parcel sizesand distance zones for orders made through the ipostparcels.com website. The 2-3 day service nowcosts £3.49 while the standard next day service is reduced to £4.49. This makes them the cheapestnext day parcel service in the UK, according to the company.

UK Mail’s CEO, Guy Buswell, said: “We want to be able to offer our customers attractive servicesand prices, so therefore after a review of the market place and with studies showing homebusinesses and small retailers are on the rise we decided to make substantial price cuts to providean even better offering to our customers.

“Our lowest price for next day delivery is £4.49 making ipostparcels the cheapest in the UK aswell as the cheapest for extra-large deliveries; this will allow us to strengthen ourcompetitiveness in the market as well as enabling smaller online businesses to have a professionalyet affordable delivery service.”

The repositioned pricing structure comes after a review of the marketplace and as a response toresearch that predicts a 12% increase in online retailing. With more eBay businesses and smalle-retailers competing in the online space a recent study by Royal Mail shows that 49% of smallretailers said key challenges for 2013 are pricing goods competitively and building customerloyalty to drive repeat purchases from existing customers (36%). In response to the challenges onequarter of SME retailers will be focusing on improved delivery and returns processes.

Launched in 2011 to target the consumer, eBay and SME market, ipostparcels offers an onlinenext-day collection and delivery service for ad hoc parcels. Customers do not require any minimumshipping volume and all parcels go through the UK Mail network.
