UPS has considerably expanded its healthcare network in five key markets in North America addingnearly 74,000 sqm to its existing 37 dedicated healthcare facilities spread across the globe.
The expanding locations include facilities in Atlanta, UPS’s hometown, in Louisville (Kentucky)where its main air hub is located, in Reno (Nevada), in Mira Loma (California) and in Burlington(Ontario, Canada). Each of the upgraded facilities is designed to serve the warehousing anddistribution needs of pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, UPS stressed.
This latest investment is part of the company’s continuous commitment to expand its healthcareservices for customers around the world. In October 2012, for example, it announced the expansionof its healthcare distribution network in the Asia-Pacific region with the opening of three newfacilities in Hangzhou and Shanghai, China, and Sydney, Australia.
UPS explained that the expansion of its healthcare facilities on a global basis is driven by thegrowing demand for specialised healthcare services, such as temperature-sensitive solutions, andUPS’ growing customer base in the healthcare sector.
UPS facilities meet all applicable government accreditations, licenses as well asgeographic-specific regulatory requirements, such as those of the Food and Drug Administration(FDA), Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Health Canada, among hundreds of others. They offerdistribution space with temperature and humidity-controlled environment helping to keep products inoptimal conditions during storage.
