DPD has started delivering to Dutch customers on Saturdays as well as weekdays in response tostrong demand.
The company said it can deliver to both business and private customers on Saturdays, thusoffering a six-day a week service. This is a unique offering for private customers, according toDPD.
The move has been driven by rising customer demand for delivery times outside normal workingdays. Michael van Ooijen, Netherlands DPD CEO & Head of Cluster DPD BeNeLux, explained: “We seethe clear wishes of our customers to expand our delivery days to Saturday.”
This is being driven by online shopping in particular. According to research, 70% of onlinebuyers in the Netherlands are keen to have their parcels delivered in the evenings or on Saturdayswhile the remaining 30% describe this option as ‘very important’.
DPD is now delivering orders from online store bol.com to the Albert Heijn stores onSaturdays, for example. For Dutch bicycle manufacturer Royal Dutch Gazelle, it is delivering spareparts to dealers on Saturdays.
Ferdi Ertekin, Gazelle’s marketing manager, stressed the importance of Saturday delivery for itscustomers. “We have an exclusive and exceptional customer service that puts our customers at thecentre. We want them to have the opportunity to visit a Gazelle dealer who has a complete range ona Saturday. This gives our customers the best possible service.”
