CitySprint races to record December retail deliveries

UK courier firm CitySprint has reported that it handled more than a quarter of a million retaildeliveries in December 2012, largely as a result of booming online sales over the Christmas period.



For CitySprint, Christmas retail deliveries doubled compared to the same time last year,making this the company’s busiest festive season to date. Delivery volumes peaked on December 18and remained high until Christmas Eve, the company said.

Patrick Gallagher, CEO of CitySprint, commented: “We’ve seen a phenomenal growth in onlineretail this Christmas, with those retailers that offer convenient delivery options benefiting themost from the increase. More and more consumers are now looking for retailers to offer moreflexible delivery options, including later shopping window cut-off’s as well as evening, scheduledand same day delivery.

“It was also interesting to see that home delivery order volumes were maintained right up toChristmas Eve showing the UK consumer’s penchant for last minute shopping is happening online, aswell as in-store.”

CitySprint’s core business is same-day delivery of critical business shipments through itsnetwork of 37 service centres, 2,000 couriers and fleet of 2,000 vehicles. The company, which alsooffers domestic overnight and international deliveries, handles more than 5 million deliveries ayear.
