John Tuohy

Irish parcels carrier Nightline is expanding its network with two new depots to keep up with theparcel volume increase of 20 per cent during the last 12 months.

With Nightline’s growing volumes boosted by e-commerce deliveries, the parcel operator nowhandles a million shipments per month.

Nightline’s CEO John Tuohy said the volume rise was mainly the result of cooperating withmajor Irish online retailers. In 2011, the company shipped just over 10.5 million items while thisyear’s volumes are set to top 12 million, he stressed.

In response to the growing business, the company has recently opened two new depots inTralee, south-western Ireland, and near Dublin Airport to help process the extra parcel volumes andfurther improve its nationwide delivery infrastructure.

The new depots in Tralee and Dublin have created new local jobs for drivers and depot staffbringing the total number of the company’s depots in Ireland to nine. It has facilities in Dublin,Belfast, Cork, Waterford, Galway, Sligo and Limerick.

“Our new premises are strategic locations and will play key roles in increasing our abilityto handle items coming into Ireland and getting parcels even more quickly to destinations in thewest of the country. We are now dealing with close to one in every three parcels on Irish roads. AsIreland generates more online sales for businesses at home and abroad, retailers, in particular, are becoming more acutely aware of the need to have a reliable partner with a comprehensivecoverage able to fulfill customer deliveries wherever on the island they may be.”

Tuohy highlighted the importance of Parcel Motel, its nationwide network of 400 self-serviceparcel locker terminals, making e-shopping even more convenient for consumers. Since its launch insummer this year, Nightline has also been able to make deliveries in a more efficient way.
