Canada Post delivers record one million parcels during the busiest day of 2012

Canada Post ships Christmas presents

Canada Post delivered one million parcels on 13 December representing an ‘all-time single-dayrecord’ and an increase of 11% compared to last year’s busiest day.

During the last week before Christmas, the Canadian postal operator counts on delivering another4.4 million parcels to 15.1 million addresses across the country by Christmas Eve on December24.

“Achieving this milestone confirms that we are successfully repositioning Canada Post to servethe emerging needs of Canadians,” Jacques Côté, Group President of the Physical Delivery Network atCanada Post, said. “Our investments in modern equipment, flexible and motorised delivery methods,Community Mail and Parcel Boxes are paying off, and so is the enhanced tracking that givescustomers peace of mind their item is on its way, or safely arrived, or ready for pickup at anearby post office. Our strategy is to build Canada Post as the No.1 choice for home delivery byCanadians.”

With growing e-commerce, Canadians shop online for an estimated value of $8 billion each year.This figure is expected to rise to over $15 billion by 2016. Canada Post has been heavily investingin new equipment in recent years to improve the end-to-end online shopping experience.

“The 2012 holiday season extends well beyond the traditional Christmas rush, since Canadians andonline retailers will also rely heavily on Canada Post’s nearly 6,500 retail outlets forhassle-free, convenient and efficient handling of the gifts they return to retailers afterChristmas and the expected rush of Boxing Day sales,” the company added.
