Bayer Pharma outsources French pharmaceutical logistics to Geodis

Bayer Pharma is outsourcing its entire pharmaceutical logistics in France to Geodis under along-term contract that makes the SNCF subsidiary into one of the three leading healthcare

logistics providers in the country.

The new 7½-year contract, whose value was not disclosed, follows a “fruitful” partnershipspanning the last eight years, Geodis said.

At the start of November 2012, Geodis took over all the laboratory logistics operations forFrance at the Saint Georges de Reneins site north of Lyon. This platform of around 15,000 sqmcarries out logistics operations such as incoming orders, quality control, storage, unit orderpicking, labelling, packaging and preparation of shipments. Sixty people, including twopharmacists, carry out these services, ensuring the compliance of on-site operations and applyinggood distribution practices.

Working from this automated site, Geodis processes all the health products distributed byBayer to pharmacies and hospitals in metropolitan France and French overseas territories.

Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals (‘Bayer Pharma’), the pharmaceutical division of BayerHealthCare AG, generated sales of almost € 10 billion in 2011 from marketing its products in morethan 100 countries.

Authorised for pharmaceutical warehousing in Europe, Geodis Logistics is consolidating itsposition on the European health market, through ten health market lines (warehousing, clean rooms,controlled temperatures, etc.) on premises of 200,000 sqm at the heart of pharmaceutical technologyparks, with 600 employees, and around 15 pharmacists.

Geodis said this operation reflects the company’s strategy of delivering specialisedofferings tailored to each market. “The aim is to bring customers a professional response to theobjectives and issues specific to each main business sector,” it stated.
