It features a fully automated parcel sorting system with the capacity to scan and sort3,500 parcels an hour. The Brisbane depot operates a fleet of over 50 vehicles with 185 operations and customer servicestaff working from the facility’s two-storey, 730sqm office block.
Bob Black, Managing Director TNT Express Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, explained that prior to the opening of Brisbane North, the smaller capacity of the previous depotwas often not sufficient to cope with growing parcel volumes. “We attribute the significantincrease in freight passing through our depot to Australia’s current economic drivers, which weview as the mining and online retail industries. We have also noticed a particular surge ininternational and priority freight heading to Papua New Guinea.
“Our Brisbane North depot allows us to streamline our business and places us in a strongposition to continue to provide our customers with the highest levels of service, including quickerdelivery times,” he added.
In line with TNT’s environmental commitment, the Brisbane North depot was designed tosignificantly reduce power use, water consumption and waste disposal requirements. The facilityuses green certified products, recycled materials for fill, native plants for landscaping, and wasbuilt from 80% recycled construction materials.
The advanced sub-metered air conditioning, general power and lighting improves buildingefficiency while translucent roof sheeting for each bay in the warehouse reduces the need forelectric lighting. The advanced air-conditioning system monitors CO2 levels, providing additionalfresh air to heavily occupied rooms. The system measures whether outside air temperature andhumidity is within the right range to allow the building to be cooled using natural air only.
Separately, TNT Express Australia has developed a new model for re-delivery of parcels to offercustomers a convenient way to collect their missed deliveries, in cooperation with ParcelPoint, anAustralian company that provides collection and return points.
