S. Vettel wins DHL Fastest Lap Award

Three-time Formula 1 champion Sebastian Vettel has raced away with this year’s DHL Fastest LapAward and picked up his trophy at a special ceremony at yesterday’s final Grand Prix of the 2012

season.

Vettel, FIA Formula One World Champion of 2012, established an unassailable lead in the fastestlap ranking after the Abu Dhabi race in early November. During the year he set the fastest lap sixtimes, scoring the most points and outclassing his opponents, especially in the later stages of theseason, despite increasing pressure as competition within the Drivers’ Championship heated up.Vettel was followed in the ranking by Jenson Button, Nico Rosberg and Kimi Räikkönen, each of themsetting the fastest lap during two Grands Prix of this season. 

The German driver, who already won the DHL Fastest Lap Award in 2009, received his trophy priorto the last race of the season in Sao Paulo. The award was handed over by Joakim Thrane, ManagingDirector, DHL Express Brazil, and former Formula 1 driver and DHL Ambassador, Christian Danner.

Thrane noted: “This year’s DHL Fastest Lap Award winner Sebastian Vettel has clearlydemonstrated that continually striving for excellence and working closely as a team can deliverperformance at top speed. Red Bull Racing-Renault’s consecutive success in the past two years showshow important teamwork is to achieve success – a highly important ingredient for us also at DHL, asthe international specialists in logistics.”  

The rules of the DHL Fastest Lap Award are very simple. One point is awarded to the driver whorecords the fastest lap in every Grand Prix race. The driver with the most points at the end of theseason wins the award, DHL explained.
