DPD expects boom in Romanian online shopping

DPD Romania is expecting a 50% surge in ‘Black Friday’ volumes as consumers snap up onlineoffers between November 23 and December 2.

The company said it is expecting to deliver 50% more packages over the period compared to itsusual average daily volume, a rise from a daily average of 15,000 packages to around23,000. 

Shipments will be generated by the extra orders made online on Black Friday (November 23), themost important shopping event of the year, it explained. The extra volumes will largely be ofhi-tech and consumer electronics.

DPD Romania said it has adopted a rigorous operational and logistics plan in order to deliverall 23,000 daily packages to the highest security standards. Deliveries coming from Black Fridaywill be handled non-stop and at maximum capacity for the period 24 November – 2 December, including30 November, a holiday in Romania, and over the weekend.

“Black Friday is a fantastic opportunity which proves yet again that the appetite of Romaniansfor online shopping is growing in a spectacular fashion, and the online retail is perhaps one ofthe most successful business sectors in Romania. We are delighted to be taking part in Black Fridayand are looking forward to it and to being alongside online magazine partners,” said LucianAldescu, CEO at DPD Romania.

The majority of the Black Friday shipments handled by DPD Romania are mainly generated by eMAG,one of the most important IT & C retailers in Romania, but by other online retailers aswell.

“This year eMAG will have twice as many offers in its Black Friday promotion, so as to managethe ever greater expectations of Romanians with this shopping event. Our customers, who werecommend stay at home to take advantage of Black Friday in front of their computer screens, arepromised delivery of their orders within a maximum of 7 days from placing the order,” said RaduApostolescu, Vice-chairman and Development Manager at eMAG.

The Black Friday delivery period will last approximately 5 days and will include another firstfor DPD Romania as it will be the first time that the courier will be making deliveries on aSunday. Depending on the delivery zones, the number of DPD couriers transporting packages will beincreased by at least 25%, and up to 100% in certain areas.
