World Courier

Pharmaceutical logistics specialist World Courier has opened its third Switzerland office inBasel, headquarters of major pharmaceutical companies Novartis and Hoffmann-La Roche.

Although the new Basel office is located within a one hour drive from World Courier’s Zurichoffice, closer customer proximity will allow for faster response to client needs and additionaltransport options via two key European gateways, commented Reto Mohni, Managing Director at WorldCourier Switzerland SA.

“Basel is a major centre for the pharmaceutical, chemical and modern biotechnology industries,”said Mohni, “and has the highest density of successful Life Sciences companies in the world.Besides housing the headquarters of two of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies, Baselaccommodates a Life Sciences cluster of many smaller companies and a continually growing number ofsuccessful start-ups.”

Basel, located close to the borders of Germany and France, is also considered the logisticscentre of Switzerland since the city benefits from the nearby Basel/Mulhouse Airport and theintersection of major European road and rail routes.

To accommodate pharmaceutical companies’ temperature control requirements, World Courier’s Baseloffice is equipped with +5°C refrigerators, -20°C and -26°C freezers, a +20°C controlled ambientarea as well as a warehouse.

Operating a total of 151 ISO 9001-certified offices in 52 countries, including 13 GMP-compliantdrug storage facilities in emerging and strategic locations, World Courier offers fullyGxP-compliant transport and supply chain systems in order to meet industry and regulatoryrequirements for time- and temperature-sensitive consignments.

World Courier was acquired by AmerisourceBergen, a US-based pharmaceutical services company, in2012.
