Australia Post has opened a flagship superstore in Canberra, the country’s capital, following amajor $1.5 million transformation to cater for the boom in online shopping and changing consumer
habits.The superstore, opened in time for the upcoming Christmas season, features a 24/7 zone whichallows local residents and businesses to pick up and send parcels around-the-clock, as well as anonline shopping zone and a one-stop travel shop.
Regional Manager Retail Services Stephen Price commented that the Australia Post superstoreswere a direct response to the 10 million Australians now shopping online.”With Christmas around thecorner, it’s a perfect time to give our Canberra customers the opportunity to collect and postparcels and access self-service facilities at a time that suits them – on the way to work, on theway home or even on the weekend,” Price said.
“As well as the 24/7 parcel lockers, customers can access self-service terminals for billpayment and posting letters and parcels within Australia, vending machines to purchase stamps andpackaging products, and an Australia Post ATM for quick access to cash.”
The superstore also features seven counters with different service specialisations, as well as adigital essentials zone where customers can shop online. A dedicated area for travel servicesserves as a one-stop travel shop, allowing customers to organise their passport, travel insuranceand travel merchandise, and also obtain foreign currency via a Travelex currency exchange outletwithin the store.
The Canberra GPO Superstore is the second Australia Post superstore after the Brisbane GPO(opened in November 2011) and is one of 31 to be opened across the country by the end of the year.In addition to the 24/7 zone available at the Canberra Superstore, Australia Post has extended theopening hours of several of its outlets in the Australian Capital Territory to accommodate theexpected Christmas surge of parcel volumes.
